When making an inquiry about undergrad university programs / courses, do you direct it to the Associate Dean?
Q. I want to make an inquiry about some programs / courses in a university I'm enrolled in, but I don't want to go directly to the Dean since it would seem really out-of-place to ask him. Who is more suitable that I can direct my inquiries to? Who usually handles all the prep. for the faculty courses and such?

A. Generally, its the provost, or the Dean or Assistant Dean of academic affairs.

Are there other university programs offered in Canada that are similar to King's Foundation Year Programme?
Q. I live in Calgary and would absolutely love to go to King's, but I would also like to explore alternate options closer to home. Are there any programs offered in other universities that are similar to FYP?
Asked by Scout - Tue Oct 27 12:40:28 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Vic-One, which is a foundation year program at Victoria @ UofT. I have a friend there who got into both, and he chose Vic-One because he wanted to live closer to home, wanted a larger city's atmosphere, and wanted a school with more of a reputation. King's is great academically but no one really has heard about it, which is a major disadvantage.

Switching university programs after being accepted?
Q. Hi, i'm not sure if i want to still go into commerce in university, or going into science. I meet the requirements for the commerce program, but not for the science one. Once I get into university, can I switch programs(to a science honours) and not have to meet the high school requirements?
Asked by danhan44 - Tue Aug 18 23:23:11 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Changing classes is one thing but changing something that is required more than likely won't happen... sorry. But schools are pretty strict about things like that. Requirements are next to impossible to get around.

how do i begin researching about what university/programs will be ideal for me in the future?
Q. it's the summer before my grade 11 year, and i want to begin looking for the right future university for me. i will be entering university in 2 years. i don't want to make the same mistake my older brother did- he was not sure about what area he wanted to go into, and ended up switching programs in his 2nd year of uni! i have a general like for all subjects in my high school, and so cannot rule out many possibilites at the moment. i don't know how or where to start researching. please lend me some advice!
Asked by rasda a - Sun Jul 29 21:03:37 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Please don't call what happened to your brother a mistake. Most people don't know what they want to study when they go to college. Even after they graduate, many people still don't know. Last I heard the average adult changes career fields at least 3 times. You're young, and it's going to be hard to decide especially since you say you "have a general like for all subjects." I was the same way, kind of liked everything, changed my major 3 times, and took 5 years to graduate. Was that my plan? No, but I needed to find what i really enjoyed, and I learned a lot about myself. When taking classes, ask yourself, "Is this something I could do all day everyday?" If not, you should probably find something else. If I were you, or could do it all… [cont.]

How beneficial are state university certificate programs?
Q. How beneficial are state university certificate programs? I am looking for a beginning to my career after a 5 year full time homemaker's job. I have a masters degree in humanities, but would like to move over to human resource sector. Would it benefit me in any way to take up a University of California's certificate program in HRM? How soon should i start working after i get the certification? Can i take my time while looking after the family and pursuing studies?
Asked by natashap - Mon Jan 7 15:05:57 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Any training program can be beneficial. You are more likely to get a job in your chosen field if you have a certificate. Of course you can take your time in looking for a job. However, you may want to explore possible job openings and see if the employer is willing to send you to the certificate program.

Im trying to find out what university programs i should apply for?
Q. I really like biology so i was wondering what programs should i think about applying for? and what kind of jobs are related to the programs you are suggesting. i dont really want to be a doctor either.
Asked by (>'.'<) - Tue Jul 7 14:32:35 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Biology is a great field and you don't have to be a doctor if you study it in college. There are plenty of professions you can go into with a Bio degree: physical therapist, dietitian, biomedical technologist, veterinarian (if you like animals), marine biologist (if you like fish). You could try MyUsearch.com and find a program that matches your interests... Biology is such a hot field right now so it's a good track to study. Are you in High School right now? See if you could chat with your Bio teacher and ask if they can suggest some fields you can go into based on what kind of interests you show in class. If you're already at the "university programs" stage of your career search, make sure you check with students at the colleges… [cont.]

A. DeVry is actually not bad for their TAC/ABET-accredited Computer Engineering Technology degree. Grantham College's degree in Computer Engineering Technology is decent, and non-synchronous (you work at your own pace), but this degree is not TAC/ABET accredited. Excelsior College offers a respectable TAC/ABET-accredited online degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, with various software options.

Can Cal State University art programs be selective?
Q. I applied to San Jose State University which is in the California State University system, for Animation/Illustration. You are not able to include a portfolio in your application (unless I missed something, and someone knows...?) So I heard from someone on the internet (I don't know how reliable this person is, they won't answer my questions), that the San Jose State animation program is actually extremely selective and hard to get into. Does anyone know if they can be this selective? How is this possible if there is no portfolio requirement? Thanks for the help in advance
Asked by Mrow - Sun Feb 7 15:12:25 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There is no reason why you can't call the Admissions office and politely ask about this non-requirement. If that gets you nowhere, call the Department Chair and politely tell him/her how excited you are and that you are concerned about there being no portfolio requirement. I guarantee that professors are bewildered by students who are not engaged, so a telephone interview is a step in the right direction. Think this through before you call. What sort of questions do you think will be asked? Your experience in A & I ? Extra-curriculars that are relevant to A & I ? Also, make sure you look over their websites first so you can briefly demonstrate that you are deeply interested. Good luck to you

A. I don't know where you are (and you don't have to tell me) but I would look into schools in your state (in-state tuition is sooo much cheaper) which offer majors in some of the following areas: 1. Non-profit administration/management 2. Public administration 3. International Development or International Relations 4. Social Change (believe it or not, there are some majors called that) 5. Social Responsibility/Corporate Social Responsibility or something that sounds like that. I think you should also consider: 5. Journalism 6. Sociology 7. Anthropology 8. Education 9. Law 10. Healthcare Essentially, whatever program you pick, I recommend taking a variety of courses to give you a broader experience...management and accounting… [cont.]

A. It's almost impossible to list the 'best' programs in anthropology -- in part because the nature of the topic is so broad and in part because your own interests within the subject may change during your academic career. You might take a look at Social- and Physical- Anthropology jounals at a local university and see if there are clusters of subjects that seem to be of interest. Using these as 'anchors' for your research, you could then look through titles about these focused subjects to see if there are certain colleges or universities that seem to be supporting a lot of work in the area. Anthropology majors typically go on to advanced degrees when they want to make that subject a life's work. That said, you might also check out… [cont.]

A. Aha! That was my major. Your college should have several writing classes along the lines of fiction, poetry, screenplay...there are also intro to creative writing classes, but majors don't usually take those where I went. It varies on what's offered, what's required, and what you want to write.

A. Albany Medical School and Union College have a similar program, with guaranteed acceptance into medical school. Rice University and Baylor College of Medicine is another pair where Rice's program gives you guaranteed acceptance. UMiami has a program that offers guaranteed acceptance to its medical school. Illinois Institute of Technology offers a program with guaranteed acceptance to the Chicago Medical School. You have to take the MCAT, but it doesn't have any bearing on your acceptance to the medical school. You must also keep a GPA of 3.25. Boston University has a program which offers provisional acceptance to its medical school (you have to maintain a 3.2 GPA and take the MCAT, getting at least a 28). A. Aerospace Engineering would be best and specialize in space, and most likely only couple astronauts of thousands get to actually go into space so you will be most likely working on the ground so any science degree such as Astro-biology, Chemistry, space horticulture, planetary geology, astrology etc.. would meet NASA, or any other space agency your looking into would need educationally. Best schools and only the realy university that offers aerospace in canada is U o T (University of Toronto) York ,Ryerson, Carleton University and Royal Military College of Canada offers space engineering programs
