Can the fiscal conservatives/social moderates beat the fiscal liberals and the social liberals?
Q. In the East Coast ? Or is it gone forever ? )= How about fiscal conservative/social libertarian ? Social moderate = Neither socially liberal nor socially conservative but a blend or in between Social libertarian = Every social issue is seen from a small government perspective , from the light of the constitution , from the bill of rights , history and what not I've noticed that fiscal conservatives all over the USA tend to be dissatisfied with both social conservatives and social liberals and in the East Coast they are hungry for social moderation or social libertarianism Can they beat them ? How about fiscal conservatives/social moderates in conservative states as well ?

A. All these labels are making my head spin. Look, there are only two actual political philosophies; Left and Right. Moderate is not a political philosophy, it is the lack of one. On the one hand, you have the Left. They believe the Government owns everything and only allows us to have it. They believe the Government is best suited to control everything and distribute it most efficiently. They do not believe in self-reliance, or free speech or freedom of Religion or the Right to Bear Arms etc. They believe in an all powerful centralized government. On the other hand, you have the Right. They believe Government is necessary only for the limited role spelled out for it by the Constitution. They believe in individual rights. They… [cont.]

What is the difference between social science and social work?
Q. What is the difference between social science and social work? how long does it take to get a bachelors in social science and in social work? i think its the same, can i do the same with both degrees?
Asked by LostN919 - Wed Jun 24 16:26:08 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Doing social science is studying people, doing research, adding to our understanding of social phenomena. Social work involves helping people directly. Things like seeing that foster homes are stuitable, helping the poor get job training, or getting people various other kinds of help. (I'm not entirely clear on this, myself.) Uh, getting a Bachelor's degree takes about 4 years, whichever field one chooses. No, the two degrees aren't the same (though you'd probably take a few of the same classes, whichever you went for).

Is social ballroom a good way to start before learning competitive?
Q. I'm 17 years old and I just started social ballroom dance lessons. I love it so much and I realize I would like to learn how to compete. But where I live I would have to drive an hour and a half to find a place that teaches competitive ballroom. Is taking social ballroom a good start for now to learn the basics? How long does it take for someone to go pro usually? I dont have any guys that would be my partner either.

A. Social ballroom is the first step, but depending on what style you want end up competing in you want to get started in that style as soon as possible. Social ballroom is typically American styling, and while there are sections of competitions reserved for American Style Rhythm and Smooth, it is very common to compete International Style Latin and Standard. Both styles have very distinct differences and to be able to place in a competition means learning and perfecting that certain style. To go professional in ballroom takes years and years of practice and competing and winning. Start learning the bronze, silver, and gold steps for the dances you want to compete in and then find a competition you can compete in. Since you're 17 there are… [cont.]

Do social services have the rights to put an elderly person in a home without that persons permission?
Q. My elderly grandma as been in hospital 2 weeks & the doctor agreed to let her home. However the family as been arguing over aftercare arrangements & 1 family involved social services. Social services will be placing my grandma in a residential home but she doesnt want to! Are they aloud to do this? What action can we take to stop this?

A. Even if your grandma gave the family member who wants to put her into a home a medical power of attorney, she can revoke that if she is of sound mind. There is a concern about who will provide adequate care for your grandmother when she comes home from the hospital. Depending on her conditions, provisions can be made for home care. Contact your local senior services office to ask what sort of support they can offer. Does someone need to be with your grandmother all the time? If so, can the ones who want to help her stay at home take turns? Social service people in the hospital seem to want to push the elderly into nursing homes right away. It makes you wonder whether the nursing homes are giving them commissions. When the… [cont.]

How can social programs be compared to plantation slavery?
Q. Amazingly, some people here compare our social programs to plantation slavery. On plantations, blacks were FORCED to work without pay, and yet the many people who have the nerve to compare our social programs to the plantations also accuse black Democrats of all being welfare recipients or slackers in the same breath. Well, which is it? Are black Democrats slaves or are they slackers? You can't have it both ways.

A. Well we obviously need some social programs. The problem I see and we have seen generations of it, is children who grow up with parents who are given a hand out as opposed to a hand up end up perpetrating the cycle. And this is not just a black or minority issue. we need programs that will encourage growth and employment in good stable jobs, not just McDonalds.

What have social networking sites done for you in your relationship building?
Q. Professor mentioned that proximity is a major factor in relationship building-that relationships can only form when you are around the other person more frequently. However, I challenged my professor and asked her, "With the prevalence of social networking sites today, can you say that what you just said is not at all true?" She paused and said, "... Good point josh. Do a report on it." So here I am now, I'm asking all of you. What have social networking sites done for you in your relationship building in the past years?

Why is social security considered by many a wonderful social program, but all others are a scurge on society?
Q. Is it because all people get social security, no matter how wealthy? If the middle-class, upper-class and wealthy are getting benefit from a social program, then is that benefit "deserved" and mysteriously considered a social program they "have rights to", that can't be taken away? Are social programs really about who "deserves" it, or who "needs" it?

A. I have found many people who are against the social security program, particularly people in their 20's and 30's. However I think your question is a good one. People tend to say social programs are not a good thing for them or the country. They point to the former Soviet Socialist Republic (Russia) and then comment "Look what happened there" . But the Soviet Union was not socialist. It was communist. Unfortunately most people do not understand that welfare has been revamped and you cannot be on it for years and years (Case in point is the gentleman from Boston who commented above me.) There is a urgent need to redress the imbalance in social sciences, so far Nobel Award Committee only awarded to the Economics in social sciences. Now in its historty nobel committee awarded Nobel Prize to a Political Scientist Elinor Ostrom, here onwards the nobel committee should treat all the social sciences as one component, as all the social sciences contribute equally good for the betterment of society and enrichment of human society.

Has anyone taken social work jobs requiring the transportation of kids or adults?
Q. i've seen a few social work jobs, and they all require social workers to feel comfortable enough to transport kids, or the elderly. in some of the agencies it even says something about being bilingual. the bilingual isn't severe to me, spanish isn't that hard to pick up and understand. its just the whole concept of transporting kids or adults to various regions! sounds scary about the whole transporting people. but i guess it is something i have to do since of the field i want to work in. as far as the whole transporting schizo patients i would really freak, they would have to be strapped down in their chairs good!
Asked by crystal spring - Mon May 18 19:45:23 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I think every job I have had in social services has required that I transport my clients. Before even being hired the agency will do a background check including your license and driving record. They require a slightly higher liability limit on your auto insurance. I've done this kind of work off and on over 20 years and have never had a bad incident even when I took a group of 7 people with schizophrenia to another state on "vacation". You and the clients' treatment providers discuss this sort of thing regarding the safety of transporting the individuals. If you feel uncomfortable, which most people do initially, you can go along with a more experienced worker to observe what happens and what kinds of limits to set.

Asked by antioxidant - Tue Nov 18 21:01:11 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There is really no exact definition that all categories would fall under. Generally social refers to the way ordinary people live their lives. Social includes, entertainment, clothing, fads, fashions, civil rights, trends, patterns, and demographics. Political refers to the decisions our elected officials make on any number of topics. Religion included. Generally discussing religion refers to social issues more than political issues however. Corrupt leaders would fall under political in most instances.
