What are important or seminal Irish or Irish influenced films?
Q. Which films do you consider seminal Irish cinema, this can include films from Hollywood or Britain which show a lot of Irish influence. Thanks. I am focused mainly on films which express an Irish national identity. And whilst not central to my question, which films feature important IRA aspects.

What seminal ideas did Romanticism start?
Q. I have to write an informal essay (yay) about romanticism and other 19th century literary movements. Here the prompt my teacher gave me, if anyone can give me ideas. Thanks Prompt: We have studied the major literary movements of the nineteenth century in America: Romanticism, Transcendentalism, and Dark Romanticism. Explain the seminal ideas of ONE of these literary movements, and use evidence from the authors we studied in conjunction with that movement to explain how that literary movement had an impact or effect on American literature.

A. One idea that Romanticism promoted was dissatisfaction with modern life and a desire to "return to nature".

What is the optimum pH for seminal fluid?
Q. What is the optimum pH for seminal fluid? Please also provide an explanation.
Asked by Dennis L - Tue Jun 10 21:42:37 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The normal pH for a seminal fluid is 7.2 to 8.0. Less than a 7.0 pH kills the sperm. They are also temperature sensitive. The optimal temperature is 36C. Higher or lower reduces their motility and their survival rate. In a fertility sperm count the pH, total volume, percent motility at collection and percent motility at one hour and percent abnormal morphology are evaluated.

What is one problem with seminal fluid that could cause a couple to not be successful in conceiving?
Q. Also: If the male spends a lot of time in a hot tub before sex how could this contribute? I need the answer for this to study for my biology exam in two days. The study material is too much so any help would be great :)
Asked by Lore - Wed Dec 9 22:34:27 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Sperm are best produced at about 34-36 degrees, which is why the scrotum is suspended outside the body, so spending a lot of time in hot tub could significantly reduce the active sperm count. Another possibility is that the seminal fluid could not help enough in raising the pH of the vagina, another important factor in sperm survival; the vagina is a very inhospitable environment for sperm. One of the first questions a fertility specialist would ask is: What style of underwear do you wear?

A. I'm not sure but the longer in between ejaculation, the more the sperm count. If you're trying for pregnancy, ask the doctor that question.

How does marijuana use affect the seminal fluid ?
Q. Not interested in it's effects on sperm, just the semen. Can it cause it to be too acidic or alkaline ? Connor-good point, but here's the reason I'm asking, ever since I met my boyfriend who uses marijuana daily, I have had recurrent bacterial vaginosis after sex with him and only him. I'm convinced the marijuana does something to the semen which is causing these infections. I have never had bv even once before getting together with him.

A. To my knowledge it doesn't effect it at all. It will cause it to taste disgusting! But the actual PH balance should not be effected because if it was you would get an infection. -Connor

Is it normal to ejaculate small amounts of seminal fluid without sexual stimulation? just hugs and cuddling?
Q. Well, Im 17 years old with no previous romantic partners, and when I am with my new and first girlfriend i get small erections that end up in wet spots on my boxers having no sexual interaction at all. If she sits on my lap, cuddles, hugs, and kisses me in a normal way, this happens... Is there something wrong with me? I dont feel it come out or anything, I just feel the small wet spot caused by this secretion that actually leaves a stain if it dries up. I feel akward because Ive never heard anyone mention anything like it before... Meaning it happening when I am not on the receiving end of sexual stimulation, just her company. Is it wrong? normal? uncommon? common? HELP!
Asked by jason - Thu Aug 16 06:56:10 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. That's normal. It's a clear liquid called pre-ejaculate or pre-seminal fluid. It's a natural lubricant made in your Cowper's gland. It is not semen, although a few sperm cells may be present in it.

Since the seminal vessicles prduce 70 % of all semen, is there a way to increase this vessicles producion?
Q. I have very low semen levels and most of the time my semen is rather watery and and transparent white. And also about 10 drops or so come out. Does this mean that i have a problem with the seminal vessles who most likely arent doing their job. Is there a way this can be treated. maybe some type of growth hormone injected into certain areas of the reproductive system. Could there also be any problems that are causing this abnormal semen quality and volume. Has treatment for low ejaculate volume been done and is it successful? I just was to have nnormal quanity of semen and semen that is thick and white with smell and taste. its a real problem in my life and i really wanna treat it.

A. I copy paste this : The process of spermatogenesis is highly sensitive to fluctuations in the environment, particularly hormones and temperature. Testosterone is required in large local concentrations to maintain the process, which is achieved via the binding of testosterone by androgen binding protein present in the seminiferous tubules. Testosterone is also produced by interstitial cells, also known as Leydig cells, which preside adjacent to the seminiferous tubules. Dietary deficiencies (such as vitamins B, E and A), anabolic steroids, metals (cadmium and lead), x-ray exposure, dioxin, alcohol, and infectious diseases will adversely affect the rate of spermatogenesis. There are many factors that influence the sperm quality. If… [cont.]

What's the chance of contracting STDs from precum (seminal fluid) orally?
Q. So what's the chance of someone getting any STD, including HIV from a male if they only performed oral sex and the male did not ejaculate in the mouth, but rather precum (seminal fluid) was released? Also the subject did not swallow the precum but rather spat it out.
Asked by N C - Wed Dec 5 15:48:08 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. There are so many variables it's impossible to give an accurate percentage to a question like this. Depends on the STI Depends on the stage of infection of the STI How much precum? Do you already have an STI (with or without symptoms) in the oral cavity? Do you have any cuts or sores in your mouth (with or without symptoms)? As far as HIV, the chances are fairly low As far as other STIs, they are not all carried in the semen/precum. They may be on the shaft of the penis, the testicle sac, or anywhere in the boxer short area. My advice to everyone is to get screened for STIs on a regular basis and not just as a reaction to a possible exposure. Getting chlamydia is one thing, as it can be treated, but if you have chlamydia or any other… [cont.]
