Is there a link to consuming an excessive amount of sugar and any illegal drugs?
Q. My 19 year old brother is consuming an excessive amount of sugar. I would say that he is putting sugar on just about everything and adding to drinks with sugar already in them. My mother is concerned that it may be drugs, but what kind? Or would there be another reason?

A. Consuming an excessive amount of sugar in itself is not indicative of illegal drug use. So you cant really assume anything based on just that. He might just really enjoy sweet foods! However, I will point out that consuming an excessive amount of sugar is often a side effect of methamphetamine use, but like I said, you would need to know more to make a conclusive diagnosis. If you still suspect drug use, check several things that may be occurring as well. Meth use often makes people stay up for long periods of time with little to no sleep. Meth use can cause hallucinations of bugs crawling underneath their skin, so if they are consistently scratching themselves, it could be a sign as well. Rapid tooth decay is also another sign, because… [cont.]
