How safe is it to travel in Costa Rica?
Q. We are planning to go to Costa Rica for our honeymoon and have been looking into Cosat Rica. I was just wondering how safe the country is in terms of violence and other areas of concern.

A. Costa Rica is the safest country of Latin America. For honeymoon I advice you to not even consider San Jose. If you want to see how the city it's like anyway in just one morning or afternoon you'll get the idea. The American tourists usually hang out around National Theater-Plaza de la Cultura-Grand Hotel Costa Rica area. You can check this area out in the next link: This particular area it's not dangerous, I see crowds of tourists walking with expensive photo cameras and I've never seen one getting assaulted or anything. (I walk through this area every day on my way back from work). Don't get too far from this area, cause you may end up on streets that I would never walk on my self. Using common sense yo'll do fine. How much money should i take with me to Costa Rica?
Q. I'm considering going to Costa Rica next summer for about a month for a work program. I would have a place to stay and most of my meals would be provided. I would be working in the mornings, but would have evenings and weekends off to explore. Around how much should I expect to spend while I'm there? I'm planning to spend money on zip lining trips but that's probably it, unless I find something else exciting. =D Thanks!

A. I would say that you'll need $1500-2000 for a month. But I wouldn't bring that much cash. Will you have a safe in your room? If not, I would not bring more than a couple of hundred and use ATM's when needed. Check with your bank what fees they charge and let them know your travel dates, so they don't freeze your card if you try to use it overseas. That may seem like a lot, but it's not. You will want to go out after work, so you will need to pay for taxis (never walk around after dark), drinks, and good restaurants. You willnot stay locked up in your room while in CR. You will go out more than you know. And CR is not cheap either. It may be a poor country, but the prices for everything are relatively high. FYI-Zip lines (canopy [cont.]

Can you buy a car in costa rica and sell it in the US?
Q. We are a British couple looking into buying a car in Costa Rica, driving through central america and in the US and then selling it somewhere there. Is it possible for British people to buy cars in Costa Rica without an address here? Is it possible for British people to sell foriegn cars in the US?

A. You cannot sell a Costa Rican car in the U.S. It doesn't meet U.S. bumper standards or emissions standards and may be lacking safety features required in the U.S. You're better off selling it in Central America or Mexico, then buying or renting a car here in the states.
