Proper nounAsia Asia (the Roman province)

It covers 8.6% of the Earth's total surface area (or 29.9% of its land area) and with approximately 4 billion people, it hosts 60% of the world's current human population. During the 20th century Asia's population nearly quadrupled. Asia is traditionally defined as part of the landmass of Eurasia — with the western portion of the latter occupied by Europe — located to the east of the Suez Canal, east of the Ural Mountains and south of the Caucasus Mountains (or the Kuma-Manych Depression) and the Caspian and Black Seas. It is bounded on the east by the Pacific Ocean, on the south by the Indian Ocean and on the north by the Arctic Ocean. Given its size and diversity, Asia — a toponym dating back to classical antiquity — is more a cultural concept incorporating a number of regions and peoples than a homogeneous physical entity (see Subregions of Asia, Asian people). The wealth of Asia differs very widely among and within its regions, due to its vast size and huge range of different cultures, environments, historical ties and government systems. Europe and Asia have been together for much longer than India and Asia and the boundary between Europe and Asia is less substantial than the boundary between India and Asia. KT Dyke: did you just make that up or do you have some support for your statement? Asked by TC - Sat Mar 14 12:42:44 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. The accepted boundaries of Europe and Asia came about for cultural reasons, not essentially geographic. It began with the ancient Greeks who recognised a boundary between their cultures and others in Asia Minor. As the geography of the region became more understood, the arbitrary division of Europe and Asia extended along cultural lines, between societies viewed as 'Asian' or 'European'. Some of the boundaries follow geographic features such as mountain ranges and lakes, but that's because it also it marked tribal boundaries. The accepted boundaries were established before the advent of modern geology and the understanding of plate tectonics. I can tell you based on the huge population and rapid growth in economics, the internet booms prosperously in China and many Web companies retrieve unbelievable success here such as QQ, Baidu, TaoBao, etc. But unfortunately few foreign company among them. There are many explanations including huge culture rift, weak copyright protection, strict news censorship, and so on. It is difficult to give you the reliable infomation --- and you'd better not trust the data from Chinese goverment until you're sure you have a good understanding of Chinese goverment --- but Google is a good case for research. Q. "Europe's trade impact on Asia: first impressions" From the very first, European interests and colonistys have always declared that trade with Asia brought considerably more benefits to Asia than negative impacts. Europeans argued that it brought commerce, jobs, and eventually education, hospitals and social improvement. So what do u think? Asked by Jassy - Fri Jun 15 14:34:25 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. It is hard to generalize lumping everyone together as European. Early countries such as Portugal and Holland made fortunes off the spice trade, and had little regard for the natives. However the British invested heavily in the infrastructure of modern day India and Malaysia, this helped both succeed. While countries like Vietnam and Indonesia failed, because of the lack of investment and training by their colonial rulers.
