Why do minor league teams change affiliates?
Q. I remember a few years ago, Houston's minor league teams were the New Orleans Zephyrs for AAA, and Round Rock for AA. Now the Zephyrs are the AAA team for the Marlins, and Round Rock has moved up to AAA. I checked a couple of the minor league teams out, and this seems to happen a lot. Why is that?

A. There are several reasons. First and foremost is the simple fact that teams sign contracts with their minor league franchises and they are looking for the best deal possible. After that, there are several other factors to consider - for example, the Dodgers recently ended their AAA agreement with Las Vegas and went back to Albuquerque. The Dodgers were disappointed in the environment at Cashman Field and in the franchise for doing nothing to improve an aging and failing stadium. Not to mention the stupid "Area 51s" name and goofy alien logo. It was something of an embarassment to the Dodgers, so off they went. Toronto only signed a one-year deal with Vegas and they'll be looking for a new AAA team next year, too, because they want a AAA… [cont.]
