What counseling theory is the most effective & relevant when dealing with minority clients? Why ?
Q. Psychoanalysis, Adlerian, Existential, Person-centered, Behavior, Cognitive behavior, Family Systems?

A. Sounds like you are trying to find help for a class question. I recommend reading your notes and a textbook. It is not the theoretical school that makes sense, it is the way you approach the patient. Also, you cannot make a blanket generalization about minorities. Are you talking about women, homosexuals, African-americans, Salvadorean immigrants, Muslims? It all makes a difference in the context.

What can anyone tell me about Adlerian Psychology? I prefer those with personal experience.?
Q. I have already looked at the Wiki entry, so please don't direct me there. I Googled my psychiatrist and his profile states that he draws from his training in Adlerian Psychology. So now I am curious about Adlerian Psychology and what it is bringing to my therapy experience. I prefer answers from those with any sort of personal experience with Adlerian Psychology as opposed to those just giving me a link to a site. Thank you!

A. Adlerian Psychology is a branch of the psychodynamic approach that Sigmund Freud started. To be brief and to the point, what happens basically is that they address issues that you have experienced in your childhood and relate it to your current life to help you make the connection. Once that happens you can find alternative ways to deal with situations that arrise in the future. Basically, we do what we used to do as children, or draw from the experiences that we had back then, but somehow were stuck and didn't progress, which is what causes adjustment or our problem solving skills...

A. Adler had his whole theorem based on sociological cooperation. This answer could only depend on the counseling context/subject matter. Are you working with an Eros complex? A Sociopathic viewpoint? Socio-apathy?

A. I'm not sure I undestand your question. Cog therapy is looking at cognitions, so thoughts. Adler made a list of basic mistakes which are like faulty ways of thinking. These are: Overgeneralizations: There is no fairness in the world False or Impossible Goals: I must please everyone if I am to feel loved Misperceptions of Life and Life s Demands: Life is so very difficult for me Denial of One s Basic Worth: I m basically stupid, so why would anyone want anything to do with me Faulty Values: I must get to the top, regardless of who gets hurt in the process I'm again not sure what you mean by catching oneself, but the idea is that you explain these cognitive errors and then people can start being aware of when they're having… [cont.]

Help me make a psych test! What ONE WORD best describes your childhood family before you started first grade?
Q. I would like your help in creating a psychological "instrument" to help clients in Adlerian-based counseling understand their childhood better. I'm an Adlerian psychologist, and a central concept is "Family Constellation." This includes (1) our parents' examples of mother/father, husband/wife, male/female, etc.; (2) our "sibling posituion": first, second/middle, last, only, twin; and (3) family origins, language, history, stories, religion, edcuation, etc. A main one is "family atmosphere," the one word that describes "what my family was like when I was a child." Family atmosphere is established by the parents and expressed by the children. When the children grow up they remember "family atmosphere" as "The way our family was when I was… [cont.]

Why was my Yahoo! account completely deleted just because I appealed something?
Q. I'd like to know why, when I made an appeal on a matter in which I was 100% justified in answering an asker's question as I did, was my entire account erased so that I now have no name, no points (more than 15,000), and no evidence that I was ever on Yahoo!Answers. That is the question to which I would like to know the answer. I have read and heard that this sort of thing happens -- that is, the completely random deleting of an entire Yahoo! account -- but never thought it would happen to me. Silly me, I guess. Rev. Dr. Bob, UCC MInister, Adlerian Psychologist, and former "Top Contributor" with over 15,000 points, and several hundred people who have connected with me. PS -- Do you think it is likely or possible that I will get a… [cont.]
